Now it's all about...Summer Sanity

July 23, 2017

After years of juggling childcare and mentally preparing myself for 6 weeks of 'such fun' I have compiled a special Top 10 Summer Guide for having a Sensational Summer especially for you!

This journey has been created from many summers when, as a 'Working Mum' I always felt lashing of guilt with side orders of panic as July grew closer and closer. Thanks to absolutely lovely 'in-laws' and super fantastic friends, I survived (just) the onslaught and gradually grew to embrace this special time. A few years ago, when employment legislation changed  to offer any employee the right to flexible working I applied for the summer off, and guess what??? They agreed...I increased my hours each week from September to accrue the hours needed to take 4 weeks off alongside my 2 weeks annual leave...thank you Flexible Working Regulations of 2014 please see below:

The law on flexible working. As an employer, you need to know about flexible working. Almost all employees with at least 26 weeks' service have the right to ask for flexible working. You need to understand your obligations to consider flexible working requests in a reasonable manner.

Now self-employed and with  the children more like young  eating machine adults, who sleep, grunt and game, I don't have those worries, but still need to plan for a harmonious holiday and 'stuff' for everyone to feel included, listened to and respected.

But before I let you in to my secrets, here are  FIVE updates from Now it's all about ME  and a reminder that a CHANGE OF DATE for The Old Oak Preloved Night is now Wednesday 26th July from 7.30pm

1. Had your colours assessed years ago? Fancy an update or 'refresh' to see if your colours have changed which they do - I have met a lot of ladies recently who have told me that they had their colours 'done' 20 years ago, which is fabulous, but if you want to know if they are still your colours, I can offer a 'refresh' at only £20

2. De-cluttering is not just for Spring, it's for every season, month even week. I am now offering a price restructure, so if it's a couple of hours to get you started, that's fine, if it's a seasonal change over, great, or a house move de-clutter, that's the job for ME. Remember there is always an option to sell any items at my Preloved events, making you quids in.

3. Yes I am still working through the summer, using my handy guide....

4. Holidays often embrace a time to reflect, people are most likely to hand in their notice after a break, so if this is you and are wanting to explore career opportunities, choices, skill sets or even a new CV, I am here to help and make this an easier transition for you.

5.  I often get booked to train or run workshops, this can be from personal development, life coaching techniques, confidence building to colour parties and style personalities - if you or know someone who might be looking for new ideas, please pass my name on - I offer discount to charities and local groups.

And finally for my guide....

Now it’s all about Top 10 summer Guide

Giving you some ‘ME’ time.

How it works

Firstly, pop the kettle on, make a drink and take 15 minutes to sit down and ponder on the following plan!

Think of simple ideas, one’s that put a smile on your face and make you feel warm and happy inside and out.

Avoid big, bold, time heavy, costly activities, it’s not a competition, this is about YOU, the family, friends and all being well…sunshine and smiles.

Stuck for ideas – here are a few from the ‘ME’ list to get your thinking process working -mine was written in Bill’s restaurant in Lewes on a napkin!

Day out to Goring by sea*breakfast in Bill’s*eating oysters in Whitstable*walk to the Skimmington Pub*coffee date with girlfriends*BBQ*make a picnic and head off to somewhere new*play tennis in a local park*go through old photos*read a book*invite friends over one evening and sit in the garden*trip to Eastbourne*bake a cake*

1).       List the top 10 things that will make this summer sensational

  8.  ………………………………………………………………………………………….

  9.  ………………………………………………………………………………………….

  10. ………………………………………………………………………………………….

2).      Now write down actions that will make this happen.

Actions need to be easy and realistic, they can be as big or small as you want. If you want to try something new, do some research first to help you. If you want to drive somewhere new, plan it or ask for recommendations of Facebook or gain advice from friends. Need some more ‘ME’ time, plan an activity for the children which means you can sit down and have some time out/read a book/sit in garden.

1st Action….something you can do NOW (or by the end of the day )……………………………………

2nd Action …………………………………………………….By When………………………...(this week)

3rd Action……………………………………………………...By When…………………………(by August)

Example

1st Action….something you can do NOW (or by the end of the day) Buy ingredients to bake a cake with the children on Monday

2nd Action Research Bill’s restaurants and pick one for breakfast that’s new and decide on a date

By When…26.7.17 .(this week)

3rd Action WhatsApp girlfriends and arrange an evening for garden drinks

By When…10.8.17 (by August)

More ‘ME’ tips

If you haven’t done so already create some WhatsApp groups to contact with friends and family to make planning easier, call them ‘Summer fun’ groups or ‘save my sanity’

Want to make more connections? Research local groups or summer events to ensure kids are happy and you can have a coffee…Join Facebook groups, What’s on in Reigate etc for information or use the Recommendation pages for ideas and suggestions for days out

Don’t feel like you need to go out on big expensive days, ask the children to set up a sports day event in the garden, or go for a walk and set a competition to ‘count how many cats we see’ or ‘spot the red door’.

Teenagers!Want to avoid screaming at your teenagers to get out of bed? Need to know they are not going to ‘screen out’ all day? Give them this guide and ask them to map out their summer. Jointly decide on ‘screen time’ ‘going out time’ ‘waking up time’ and working towards a harmonious holiday!

If you can delegate small jobs around the home, start now. If someone else can unload the dishwasher, this could give you 10 minutes of ‘me’ time! Plan it in, it’s a small task, but it’s so much better shared.

Ask yourself ‘what’s the worst job/task I don’t want to do over the summer’ and start with that! Once you have achieved the job you least want to do, everything else will be a joy!! Eat that frog…..

Mark Twain once said that if the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you can go through the day with the satisfaction of knowing that that is probably the worst thing that is going to happen to you all day long
